Bexar County Partners For Youth Juvenile Services

Projects

COMMUNITY SERVICE RESTITUTION (CSR) PROGRAM

The Community Service Restitution (CSR) Program provides opportunities for juveniles (ages 10 to 17) to complete community service hours as directed by the Bexar County Juvenile District Courts. CSR takes many forms, for instance, general office duties, graffiti abatement, grounds clean-up, landscaping, painting, ramp build, etc. It is performed via work crews, service learning, or placements in individual work sites. Community service performed by juveniles under the supervision of the Juvenile Probation Department can only be arranged with non-profit, faith based, and governmental agencies.  In short, CSR is restorative in nature – benefiting both the individual and community.

DETENTION WEEKEND PROGRAM

Designed for youth who are at high risk for commitment to TJJD, the Detention Weekend Program is an innovative post-adjudication program. It provides brief stabilization, intensive short-term programming, and a comprehensive evaluation of each youth’s individual treatment needs to support and enhance the success of community supervision. In order not to disrupt school attendance, youth report to the facility for 4 consecutive weekends late Friday afternoon and engage in intensive programming until they return home each Sunday at noon. Over the four weekends, curricula, based on Cognitive Behavioral Treatment/Motivational Enhancement Treatment (CBT/MET) approaches, build on previously learned material. As the youth are working through the weekend curricula, on-going evaluation activities are also taking place which includes an in-home family evaluation (conducted by specially trained officers and /or mental health paraprofessionals), in-school follow-up and advocacy (through our partnership with Communities in Schools-CIS), behavioral observations, interviews with youth and family. The Weekend Program also has The Weekend Program-Family Group. This component is to engage parents more actively in their child’s treatment. The Family Group is a multi-family group aimed to provide an opportunity for parents to gain increased social support, obtain parenting skills to manage challenging behaviors, and to educate parents about WEP curricula.
